Masaki Kurosaki

Masaki Kurosaki Bleach manga
Masaki, the mother of Ichigo, Yuzu and Karin died sadly when they were still children. Her death left a deep scar on her family. Isshin, their father keeps a large poster (that seems to change in manga) on the wall and talks to it occasionally. Karin finds that childish and Yuzu seems to have taken over her mother’s role in housework.

Ichigo on the other hand was there when it happened. His mother died trying to save her child and the memory of it is still imprinted in his mind. Ichigo blames himself for his mother’s death, the sadness he has brought upon his family for taking their beloved Masaki away who was the center of everyone’s universe. Ichigo truly worshipped his mother and so did the rest of the family.

It was because of her death that all the children’s personalities changed completely. Ichigo who had always been a terrified little boy, turned into his scowling short tempered self, carrying a burden of guilt for her death. Both Karin and Yuzu who had always been crybabies became more responsible and mature.

Yuzu Kurosaki

Yuzu Kurosaki Bleach mangaYuzu, the younger of the Kurosaki twins, is very soft spoken and very feminine compared to her tomboyish sister Karin. She decided to take over the housework after their mother died and takes care of cleaning and cooking and chases Ichigo around worrying about him like a mother.
Yuzu is very emotional and very childlike compared to her sister, for example she still likes to play with dolls and stuffed animals (much to Kon’s misfortune) Like Karin she is a member of Don Kanonji’s Karakura Superheroes, who took up the role of fighting Hollows when Ichigo and the rest departed to save Rukia.

Karin Kurosaki

Karin Kurosaki Bleach mangaKarin is the younger sister of Ichigo and the older twin of Yuzu. She is cynical, sarcastic and loves to play soccer and excels in it. Actually, her kicks are so powerful so that she can even fight weaker hollows and defeat them with her kick. She is also very spiritually aware and can see ghosts and Shinigami. But Karin acts coolly when it comes to the subject of ghosts claiming that she does not believe in them even though she can see them. She later on confronts Ichigo telling him that she knows that he is a Shinigami and wonders why he is suffering so much.

Karin tries to act all cool and grown up at times acting like she does not really care. But we late discover that her attitude became like that after their mother died and Karin became very adult like and decided to become a responsible person.

Her name is a homonym in Japanese for the fruit quince, just like Ichigo’s name is for strawberry.

Isshin Kurosaki

Isshin Kurosaki BleachIsshin is the father of three children (Ichigo, Yuzu and Karin) and is the head of the Kurosaki family. He is a skilled doctor and runs a private clinic in their home.

In the beginning of the series we see that Isshin is a loving father who takes keen interest in what his children are into, but his approach only seems to alienate his children from him. He also comes off as silly and seems rather fond of fighting (physically) with his son as a training or a showing off of his skill.

He also seems to embarrass his children by his all too positive all-too-happy tone and loves to make fun of Ichigo. But as we later discover Isshin can become serious and even severe at times, for Isshin seems to be an exiled Shinigami who is very aware of everything that happens in the Bleach universe.

Ryō Kunieda

Ryō KuniedaRyō Kunieda (国枝鈴, Kunieda Ryo)

Ryo is a tall girl that sometimes wear glasses but takes them off when she doesn’t need them. She hangs out with Chizuru, Orihime and the rest of the girls from their class. She is the 2nd best at school in her studies and can always be seen studying. She is also the school’s track star and she can run a 100 meters in 12 seconds flat.

Michiru Ogawa (小川みちる, Ogawa Michiru)

A cute looking girl that always hangs out with Ryo Kunieda. She is also in Ichigo’s class and remarks that she thinks that Ichigo has a scary face.

Chizuru Honshō

Chizuru Honshō Bleach school character
Chizuru Honshō (本匠千鶴, Honshō Chizuru)

Chizuru Honsho is also a classmate who seems to be in love with Orihime. Yes, Chizuru is a lesbian and she is proud to admit it. She even calls Orihime by the name ‘Hime’ which means princess in Japanese. Chizuru can always be found crushing on Orihime and drooling over her rather curvaceous body. She has also hit on Kunieda, Mahana and Michiru on occasion and noted that Tatsuki is pretty but too tomboyish for her taste.

Mizuiro Kojima

Mizuiro Kojima Bleach school characterMizuiro Kojima (小島水色, Kojima Mizuiro)

Miuiro is also Ichigo’s classmate and Keigo’s friend. Unlike Keigo, Mizuiro is calm and has a gentle speech and has a boyish appearance. In contrast to that he is a real womanizer scoring with woman all the time and excusing himself because he has to go on a date with one or more women. Mizuiro also has a preference for older women.

Later in the manga it is revealed that he was very quiet in Junior High and did not have many friends before going to High School. Also we discover that Mizuiro like most characters that Ichigo comes in contact with later develops the ability to see hollows and Shinigami.

Tatsuki, even though being a girl, is a tomboy who loves to practice karate and has a dream of becoming a vale tudo champion one day. Tatsuki is Ichigo’s childhood friend and they used to go to karate together and she used to beat him up. Then after starting High School, Ichigo and Tatsuki somehow grew apart.

Tatsuki is also best friends with Orihime, over whom she is very protective since Orihime’s endowments cause guys to stick to her like butter (not only boys but also Chizuru) When Orihime was young she was being bullied and they tried to cut of her hair. Tatsuki was the one that protected her and promised to protect her from anyone who dared to make her cry. She also taught Orihime some karate.

Tatsuki has blue hair in the anime and black hair in the manga. She doesn’t look very feminine but does write her name in hiragana instead of kanji because she believes it looks cuter.

Like most of the characters who come in contact with Ichigo, Tatsuki is also able to see ghosts, hollows and Shinigami.

Yasutora Chad Sado

Yasutora Chad Sado major Bleach characterChad is a supporting character in the anime and manga series Bleach. He goes to Karakura Highschool and is in the same class as Ichigo, Rukia, Inoue and Ishida. His real name is Yasutora, but because Ichigo pronounced his family name Sado as Chado, he continues referring to him as Chad.

Yasutora Chad Sado major Bleach character
Character Outline

Even though Yasutora ‘Chad’ Sado has a Japanese name, he is of Mexican descent. Chad is a quiet and considerate person who truly cares a lot about his friends and has a weakness for cute things like little animals. After Ichigo becomes a Shinigami his energy affects Chad as well and he becomes spiritually aware and later in the series also gains power.

Chad is extremely tall, towering at a height of 6’5 ½ (197 cm) and is very muscular. He looks like a solid rock and at first appearance looks menacing and much older then he really is. But we later find out that even though he looks made for fighting, Chad never stands up for himself and refuses to fight, a promise he made to his grandfather when he was young.

Chad also has a tattoo on his left shoulder which reads: Amore e Morte (Love and Death in Italian) the tattoo consists of a heart, snake and angel wings that are around the heart. Chad usually wears his school uniform but most often he is wearing a Hawaiian shirt but changes shirts throughout the series.

Like Ishida and Inoue, Chad lives on his won. He is also very smart and is the 11th best student in his school.

Uryuu Ishida

Uryuu Ishida Bleach Major character
Uryū Ishida (石田 雨竜, Ishida Uryuu)

Uryuu Ishida is a supporting character in the anime and manga series Bleach. He is in the same class as Ichigo, yet in the beginning of the series he and Ichigo were not really friends. Ishida is not simply a normal highschooler, we later find out that Ishida is the last of the Quincy.

Uryuu Ishida Bleach Major character
Character Outline

Ishida Uryuu in the beginning of the series appears rather withdrawn, shy and quite but can sometimes act high and mighty when around Ichigo (which only proves to annoy Ichigo) Ishida seems to never interact with anyone at school and hardly speaks to anyone. He wears glasses and is the top student in school giving him a kind of ‘nerdy’ air. He always seems to be serious and refuses to participate in things that he finds childish, and yet he is member of the fine arts club, where he patches up stuffed animals and sews clothes for them.

Ishida has black hair in the manga and blue-ish in the anime and he wears it longer in front then the back. He wears glasses (sometimes they refer to him as four-eyes) and has very pale skin compared to the rest of the characters.

Ishida is not a normal teenager, he is a Quincy and lives by the moral ethic known as the Pride of the Quincy (note the word pride, another of his characteristics) Ishida is in the beginning reluctant to help Ichigo in his quest, but his strong sense of justice eventually makes him join Ichigo and the rest.

Ishida also loves to try and act cool in front of people (even though some of them like Ichigo are not so impressed) for example wearing a cloak that has no other purpose then being aesthetically appealing.

Surprisingly, Ishida seems to be very poor even though his father owns a hospital (he does not even have enough money to buy a cellphone). Like Orihime and Chad, Ishida lives alone. Ishida does not have a good bond with his father but we know that he had great respect and love towards his grandfather who also showed him the way of the Quincy.

Orihime Inoue bleach major character

Orihime Inoue bleach major character

Orihime Inoue (井上 織姫, Inoue Orihime)

Orihme Inoue is a supporting character in the anime and manga series Bleach. She is Ichigo’s classmate and after Ichigo becomes a Shinigami his spirit energy awakens her own hidden powers. As the series progress (manga) Orihime appears more and more often in contrast to previous volumes where she plays only a minor role as a supporting character.

Orihime Inoue bleach major characterCharacter Outline

Orihime is Ichigo’s classmate and like him goes to Karakura High School. There she hangs out with Tastuki Arisawa, Ichigo’s childhood friend. Orihime may somewhat appear to be an oddball, making the most stupid remarks and appearing to always be clueless to what others are saying. But Orihime is actually much more intelligent then she appears, having the third highest scores in school.

In appearance Orihime has long brown hair in the manga and orange hair in the anime which she wears with hairpins. The hairpins have a sentimental value to her as we find out in the second and third episode, and we find out that she wears it in memory of her late brother. The reason why she wears her hair long is in honor of a promise to Tatsuki who protected her when she was teased because she had long hair and other children were jealous of her. Orihime is rather well-endowed and this trait is often a subject of jokes in the series.

Orihime has a friendly, sensitive and kind character. Most of the times she seems clueless and naïve, and her actions usually lead to embarrassing consequences due to the fact that she rushes into things without thinking. She also has the weirdest taste for food mixing things that obviously do not go together and grossing her classmates out it.

Orihime also has a wild imagination (when she pictured herself as a robot in the future that shoots missiles from her chest) and she is also a member of the Handicraft Club that is lead by Ishida Uryuu.

Another interesting fact about Orihime is that she is in love with Ichigo, and as the series progress we see her feelings become stronger.

Kuchiki Rukia Bleach character

Kuchiki Rukia bleach character
Short Summary

Is a major character in the manga and anime series Bleach, by Tite Kubo. Rukia is a shinigami. She meets Ichigo Kurosaki, an everyday high school student, and through a set of circumstances, he obtains her powers, forcing her to take up residence in his home and him to take her place as a shinigami.

Kuchiki Rukia bleach character
Character outline

Initially born into a lower class, she still retains her modesty even as a member of the nobility: she is graceful and "clean," yet chooses to talk to ordinary people.

Although she tells Ichigo that she is nearly ten times older than him, she is endearingly clueless about the ways of the world (especially in the case of juice packets) and learns to speak modern Japanese through the manga she reads.

She is an accomplished actress, being able to act her way through a number of tough situations. Ichigo seems to be the only one to always pick up on it and accuse her of pretending. She also seems to enjoy drawing (rather badly). Rukia loves Chappy the Rabbit and is rather put out when she is unable to obtain Chappy Soul Candy because of its popularity in Soul Society.

Her attitude towards Ichigo varies throughout the series. At times, she is a bickering adversary, and at other times, she worries about him and dispatches advice like a wise old sage. Most scenes are shown with her and Ichigo yelling and making faces at each other. However, there is a deeply serious side to Rukia as well, best shown during the time she was taken back to Soul Society for giving her powers to Ichigo. In her time in Soul Society, which she spent in various holding cells, she is constantly seen resigned to her fate or in deep thought.

She and Ichigo have similar feelings of loss and guilt. Ichigo thought he was responsible for his mother's death and Rukia thought she was responsible for Kaien's death.

Due to her circumstances during the early story and the anime Bount arc, Rukia lives in Ichigo's closet with Kon; she uses the bedroom window as an entryway into the Kurosaki household. Additionally, she has obtained casual clothing and school uniforms for her day-to-day activities, some of which were stolen from Ichigo's sister Yuzu, and the rest of which were supplied by Urahara on credit.

Several months after the incidents at the Soul Society, Rukia returns to the living world with five other shinigami to combat the rising arrancar threat. She manages to convince the Kurosaki family to let her stay with them (albeit using a flimsy sob story that instantly convinces Yuzu and Isshin), and moves out of Ichigo's closet and is to share a crowded room with Karin and Yuzu

Kurosaki Ichigo bleach characters
Character Outline

The term ‘tough’ would be a rather accurate word to describe Ichigo’s appearance and behavior. Ichigo tries to be promote a kind of detached image that he shows to those around him. He has spent a great deal of effort maintaining this image, of which his furrowed eyebrows and the scowl he always keeps on his mouth are the main characteristics. But as the story develops, we also get too see inside of Ichigo and beyond his defenses and find out that Ichigo is actually a very caring person who would go to the greatest lengths for those he holds dear. He is also very short tempered, impatient, easily embarrassed when it comes to naked or scantly clad women, is sometimes rude and loves to argue with Rukia. But he can also become serious, is overprotective over his family and holds himself responsible for the wellbeing of his friends and teammates. Ichigo has also a strong sense of moral that makes him strive in fulfilling his duties as a Shinigami.

In appearance, perhaps the most noticeable thing is his hair, which is orange and spiky (and he has probably inherited it from his mother who also has orange hair). This fact has brought Ichigo many troubles, as it seems to upset many off his upperclassman who enjoy picking fights. Ichigo on the other hand claims that he could not care less what other think about him (his hair or other subjects) and seems to enjoy fighting against the bullies.

In school (Karakura High School) Ichigo has a few friends from his class with whom he hangs out with. Even though it seems that he isn’t interested in school, Ichigo manages to get good grades, a result of studying at home. This fact seems to upset some of his friends who are not so fond of learning.

Ichigo’s family consists of his father, Isshin:Kurosaki and his two younger sisters: Yuzu and Karin. His father, a doctor, has a small medical clinic in their house and all of the members of the Kurosaki household help from time to time. Ichigo’s mother: Masaki died when Ichigo was small so his younger sister Yuzu has taken over the role of ‘housewife’ cleaning and cooking and summoning Ichigo for meals. Ichigo has a rather competitive bond with his father, and the two of them can be constantly seen engaged in some hilarious one on one combat which is always light-hearted.

Like Ichigo, some members of his family have also the ability to see or communicate with ghosts to some extent. But out of them all, Ichigo seems to be the most gifted and sees them wherever he goes.

After Ichigo becomes a Shinigami and his spiritual power is released, this begins to effect some of the other characters, mainly people from his class. Because Ichigo, unlike most Shinigami (there are of course exceptions), constantly produces high amounts of spiritual energy (reiatsu) his body cannot sustain it and it constantly leaks out making others also spiritually aware, but also making him a target for the hollows which are attracted to reiatsu.
